The One Team, Two Continents Ambassador Program is a collaborative project between Global Leading Light Initiatives, Agape Weks, the Chicago Knights Robotics Team, and Goldin Institute in partnership with the United States Embassy in South Africa. It teaches young people from Port Alfred, Eastern Cape, South Africa, and Chicago, Illinois, USA, how to use the values of pluralism and social inclusion to find robotics-based solutions to problems in the real world. For the 1T2C Ambassador program, teenagers from both countries travel to and spend time in the other's country to experience its culture firsthand.
The first cross-cultural immersion took take place at Stenden University in Port Alfred from 4th October 2022 to 09th October 2022. It was an amazing week of cross-cultural exchange as the 1T2C members from Port Alfred and the GLLI team welcomed their colleagues, mentors, and parents from Chicago, USA. During their time in Port Alfred, participants from both countries engaged in a number of activities designed to foster cultural understanding and strengthen their skills in the field of robotics. The second leg of the cross-cultural exchange will be held in Chicago, USA, in March 2023. Teens from Port Alfred will spend a week in Chicago working together with their American peers to compete in a global design contest organized by FIRST Robotics.
